Contacting Legislators About Tax Proposal
The 2022 White House budget released earlier this summer includes a provision eliminating the benefits of split-interest gifts for taxpayers which would drastically decrease charitable giving and result in the loss of hundreds of millions of dollars to our nation’s charities. Enacting this provision would have a disastrous impact on nonprofit organizations.
Thanks to the National Association of Charitable Gift Planners and the American Council of Gift Annuities for issuing their joint statement last week explaining the dire results of implementing the White House’s budget request to Congress.
In full support of CGP and ACGA’s position, we drafted the below letter template to send to our Representatives and Senators to flood Washington with the overwhelming message this legislation is not supported. In addition to each of our associates sending this letter to their own legislators, we are sending it from our corporate office, signed by both our Founder and CEO, Eddie Thompson, and our President, Cayce Powell. We will also send it to all members of the House Ways & Means Committee and the Senate Committee on Finance.
We encourage anyone, whether working in the charitable community or not, to utilize this letter template. Remember, nonprofits should not lobby, so clarify that any correspondence to legislators is from you individually and not on behalf of your nonprofit organization.
