What do all those letters mean?

AIF®

The Accredited Investment Fiduciary® designation is a professional certification that assures those responsible for managing or advising on investor assets have a fundamental understanding of the principles of fiduciary duty, the standards of conduct for acting as a fiduciary, and a process for carrying out fiduciary responsibility.

ARM

An Associate in Risk Management is one of the premier insurance designations of the property casualty insurance industry. This insurance designation is held by distinguished professionals of the insurance industry including risk managers, risk officers, risk advisers, insurance agents, brokers, and underwriters.

CAP®

The Chartered Advisor in Philanthropy®  designation is a professional that possesses comprehensive knowledge in charitable giving and philanthropic planning. An advisor who has this designation works with clients to help them give in ways that fit their larger financial or estate plan.

CEPA

The Certified Exit Planning Advisor Program is a five-day executive MBA-style program that trains and certifies qualified professional advisors in the field of exit planning to help business owners create an exit plan — a blueprint for selling your company for maximum benefit. 

CFA™

A Chartered Financial Analyst is a globally-recognized professional designation given by the CFA Institute, that measures and certifies the competence and integrity of financial analysts.  The program is a self-study curriculum and examination program for investment management professionals.  Established in 1962, the CFA​ charter is the most highly respected credential in the investment management profession.

CFP®

For more than 30 years, the Certified Financial Planner™ certification has been the standard of excellence for financial planners. These professionals have met extensive training and experience requirements, and commit to CFP Board’s ethical standards that require them to put their clients’ interests first.

CFRE

A voluntary credential that is recognized worldwide, the Certified Fund Raising Executive signifies a confident, ethical fundraising professional.

CRPC

The Chartered Retirement Planning CounselorSM is a designation program for financial professionals. This program enables experienced advisors, who are focused on retirement planning for individuals, define a “road map to retirement.” There is a focus on clients’ pre- and post-retirement needs, as well as issues related to asset management and estate planning.

CSPG

The Certified Specialist in Planned Giving programs provides in-depth coverage and sophisticated treatment of pertinent topics and issues in the field of planned giving.

D.Min.

The Doctor of Ministry degree is a professional doctorate which may be earned by a minister of religion while concurrently engaged in some form of ministry.

EA

An Enrolled Agent is a tax practitioner who is licensed at the federal level by the Internal Revenue Service. In fact, the enrolled agent status is the highest credential awarded by the IRS.

Ed.D.

The Doctor of Education is both a research and professional doctoral degree that focuses on the field of education. As the highest degree in the field, it prepares the holder for academic, research, administrative, clinical, or professional positions in educational, civil, private organizations, or public institutions.

FAHP

The Fellow of the Association for Healthcare Philanthropy (FAHP) is a designation bestowed on Association for Healthcare Philanthropy (AHP) members who have made significant contributions to the healthcare philanthropy profession. The Fellow designation recognizes a career of achievement.

Representing fewer than 2% of AHP members, the FAHP is awarded to those who truly demonstrate professional excellence and a commitment to healthcare philanthropy through their education, experience, performance and service.

FCEP

The Fellow in Charitable Planning designation means the professional understands that people make important planned gifts only within the larger context of their values and objectives applied to their financial, tax, and estate plans. These professionals apply this larger context and utilize planned gifts to accomplish broader charitable and noncharitable goals. They possess a full appreciation for charitable estate planning and how it will lead their clients to larger charitable gifts and greater personal satisfaction. Additionally, they have made a commitment to a nationally recognized standard of ethics, and to maintaining and updating their knowledge at a minimum of every 3 years.

J.D.

The Juris Doctor degree, also known as the Doctor of Jurisprudence degree, is a graduate-entry professional degree in law. In the United States, the Juris Doctor is earned by completing law school.

LL.M.

The Master of Laws (LLM) is an internationally recognized postgraduate law degree earned to develop more concentrated expertise in a particular area of law.  A J.D. teaches general legal skills, while an LL.M. is an advanced, specialized law degree.

MBA

A Master of Business Administration is a general graduate business degree that teaches students technical, managerial, and leadership skills.

MSFE

A Master of Science in Finance and Economics is designed to improve a professional’s understanding of economics and finance.

Ph.D.

A Doctor of Philosophy is the highest university degree that is conferred after a course of study by universities in most countries.
