Doug McGaughey, FCEP

Doug McGaughey joined Thompson & Associates in November, 2011 where he provides charitable estate planning services primarily in the greater Houston, Texas area. 

Doug has worked in fund development programs and not for profit institutions for 39 years.  He spent 13 years leading all aspects of successful planned giving programs and serving donors associated with the Memorial Hermann Hospital Foundation, The University of Texas Medical Branch, and Rice University. 

Recently, Doug completed 6 years raising major and planned gifts for Christian Children’s Fund, a child sponsorship and relief organization for developing countries around the world. He began his career with the YMCA working 16 years in program, management, and fund raising roles for metropolitan branch Y’s in Houston, Texas and Miami, Florida.  Other full time fund raising programs in his career include the Houston Area Boy Scouts and St. Luke’s Episcopal Hospital. 

Doug is a graduate of Illinois State University majoring in sociology and philosophy.  He trained with Robert Sharpe, Sr. in the first intensive institute for the National Planned Giving Institute at the College of William and Mary. He held the CFRE fund raising credential for 19 years.  He is a Fellow in Charitable Estate Planning from the Institute of Estate Planning. Doug remains active in and is a former 6 year member of the board of the Planned Giving Council of Houston.  He has enjoyed membership and serving in various volunteer positions and speaking for AHP, PPP/NSFRE, and CASE.

Doug enjoys choral singing, landscape gardening, church, and fitness activity.
